The Northern Regional Hospital Skilled Care Facility in Mount Airy, North Carolina, has been recognized as one of the Best Nursing Homes by U.S. News & World Report. The facility received an overall rating of 5 out of 5 and a "High Performing" rating for short-term rehabilitation, the highest possible score.

For its 2025 edition, U.S. News evaluated over 15,000 nursing homes based on various factors such as residents' outcomes, infection rates, staffing levels, reliance on antipsychotic drugs, health inspection results, and other quality indicators.

Northern Skilled Nursing was acknowledged for its high performance in short-term rehabilitation care, ranking it among the top 10% of nursing homes in North Carolina. The facility's performance surpasses the state average in several categories like discharge-to-home rates and patient outcomes.

Robin H. Hodgin, Interim President and CEO of Northern Regional Hospital, expressed gratitude for the recognition: “We are grateful to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report and the ACHCA for this prestigious honor.” Hodgin added that this accolade reflects their commitment to exceptional care and is a testament to the dedication of their doctors, staff, volunteers, and leadership team led by Jenny Triplett.

Northern Skilled Care is a 33-bed unit within Northern Regional Hospital providing both permanent residence and temporary care for patients needing extended assistance post-surgery or illness. It offers entertainment activities throughout the week while maintaining private rooms for solitude. Short-term rehabilitation patients receive care from an on-staff physician and in-house therapists specializing in physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
