A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Yadkin County Election Department regarding pre-election voting machine test reports on October 30, 2024.
The request was made by us at Yadkin Valley News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. We sought records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., specifically requesting the pre-election test reports for election voting machines in PDF format.
The requested information included specific fields such as the test date, machine manufacturer, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).
As a media organization committed to transparency and public accountability, we believe access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.
This FOIA request is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in our local government's operations, particularly in matters related to elections.
