A North Carolina congressman is using his social media to draw attention to an honor the Surry Community College recently received.
The Dobson-based institution was recently named the 16th best community college in the U.S., according to a report from SmartAsset.
"Congratulations to Surry Community College for being ranked the 16th best community college in the United States," Rep. Kyle Hall (R-NC) wrote in a July 29 Facebook post. "SmartAsset, a personal finance technology company, analyzed more than 800 community colleges across three metrics: student-to-faculty ratio, graduation and transfer rate and tuition cost. North Carolina had 10 colleges in the top 25."
Hall said Surry's ranking would not have happened "without ht leadership of President David Shockley and his entire faculty and staff."
The SmartAsset report, released in July, found that North Carolina still remains a top state for a community college-based education. The site considered student-faculty ratios, graduation and transfer rate, and tuition cost to compile the list.
Three of the Top 5 colleges ranked were from North Carolina, with Brunswick Community in Bolivia topping the charts.
