Yadkin County's proposed 2020-21 fiscal budget doesn't include any tax increases, but it does take into account a potential revenue decrease, the Yadkin Ripple reported.
“I didn’t think she could do it without a tax increase. I’m really proud of her,” Commissioner Gilbert Hemric told the Yadkin Ripple about County Manager Lisa Hughes' proposed budget for a report published on June 3.
In addition to no tax increase, Hughes incorporated revenue loss into the budget she proposed, taking guidance from the state that there will be a 20% to 50% decrease, the Yadkin Ripple reported.
“We complain sometimes because we don’t have a lot of retail, but in times of an economic downturn, I think that works in our favor," Hughes told the Yadkin Ripple. "We don’t see the huge decreases that surrounding counties see.”
The proposed $37,239,788 budget is approximately $183,300 more than the current spending plan, the Yadkin Ripple reported. Under the plan, the property tax levy would increase $461,861 to $20.3 million. The financial roadmap also projects a $703,000 sales tax revenue decrease.
