A Wilkes County resident's address to the state Legislature received accolades from a lawmaker for her detailing of the struggles faced when trying to help people file for unemployment benefits amid COVID-19.

"Linda Money, from Wilkes County, spoke to the Senate Commerce and Insurance Committee today [May 18]," Rep. Sarah Stevens (R-Wilkes) wrote on her Facebook page. "Linda has selflessly donated her time and efforts towards helping many constituents in District 90 (and beyond) with filing for unemployment and other COVID-19 relief funds. She has worked closely with our office."

Money testified before the Senate Commerce and Insurance Committee.

"From what we were seeing, mobile devices (such as smartphones and tablets) were extremely unreliable with signing on and filling out information," Money said, according to Stevens's post. "And as the system had more and more users even the computers were having a hard time navigating an already difficult program. The program itself is not user friendly at all."

The lawmaker applauded the testimony calling Money's efforts a "selfless" donation of her time in helping address the unemployment issues that plague District 90.

"Linda addressed issues and errors she faced when trying to help people file. Thank you for your service, Linda," Stevens wrote.
