The Surry Community College Foundation raised around $90,000 during the 26th Annual Woltz-Harold Golf Tournament for student scholarships.
About 200 golfers played in the tournament on Sept. 15, at Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy, which featured a morning and an afternoon tee off.
Each year, approximately $225,000 to $260,000 in scholarships are awarded by the SCC Foundation to students including endowed and pass-through scholarships. Money is also set aside to help students through the Student Emergency Fund. The SCC Foundation has held a golf tournament for 26 years to raise money for student scholarships, netting more than $1 million.
The tournament honors past SCC Foundation Board of Directors, Pat Woltz and Bobby Harold, who personally endowed scholarships for students and volunteered annually for the golf tournament.
Winners of the morning round were as follows: Cross Creek flight – Sowers Construction, first place, and WLA, second place; Pebble Beach flight – Rogers Realty, first place, and UNIFI, second place; St. Andrews flight – Thermo King Central Carolinas, first place, and ALTEC, second place.

“The real winners are the Surry Community College students who will benefit from the scholarship funds created by the golf tournament,” said SCC Foundation Director Sheila Franklin. “The success of the day is attributable to the many donors, golfers and volunteers. We appreciate everyone’s support.”
