Tried to tag them but FB is strange sometime. Anyway, many of you know I sought for years for the best burger and I certainly found some greats! Many of which are local!! But I decided this week to turn my (Lee) attention to the Philly Cheesesteak. A simple sandwich but has so many elements to create a masterpiece. I began my search here at Mattys with full knowledge that it will be hard to beat (everyone recommends it). This is my first one from here, as Des and I usually go in and split a 3 item seafood plate. (More in that later). This Philly has it all, tender beef peppers, onions, and mushrooms and well incorporated cheesy goodness. A spread of Mayo across the sun roll. But let’s talk bread, the bread I think is the most over looked part. The bread needs to have that initial crust crunch followed by warm and soft fluffiness just before sinking your teeth into the meat. Well this guy delivers! Did I mention this thing is huge!!!! Really enough for 2 people. Grabbed a fan favorite of Buffalo chips. Des grabbed the grilled chicken plate with potatoes and green beans. Let talk chicken….this breast was not that overly injected sodium solution mess. It was a bird seared up on the flat top with a nice simple spice.
Okay let’s talk seafood…honestly, Mattys has some of the best fried seafood I have eaten. There are many good spots even in our area. However they nudge to the top. It is consistently delicious, crispy, meaty, not overly breaded and the portions are enormous compared to the price. There is a reason that parking lot is ALWAYS full! Highly recommend this place to everyone and be sure to tip your servers well!
