Yadkin County issued the following announcement on March 9.

On 3/7/2022, the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education approved an application for the Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund Grant, which allows for renovations and improvements to older school facilities, as well as for new construction of school facilities.

The total amount of grant funding requested was $9,861,038. The Yadkin County Board of Commissioners previously set aside funding that would meet the 5% local grant match.

In the fall of 2021, a committee was created representing both Yadkin County Schools and Yadkin County to consider projects to include in the grant application. A wide range of potential projects were discussed and prioritized over the course of several months. Funding from this grant would provide crucial upgrades and construction for school facilities across the County.

The application for the Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund Grant includes funding for a new auxiliary gym at each high school, replacement of the high school tracks and visitor bleachers, as well as six tennis courts. The grant will also replace roofs at three elementary schools and one high school. By providing a local match and working with Yadkin County Schools, the County can ensure these needs are effectively addressed.

The requested funding is for these essential renovations and new construction will better serve the children and community of Yadkin County as a whole. The Yadkin County Board of Commissioners and Yadkin County School Board are committed to improving school facilities to benefit current students and have a lasting positive impact for future generations of Yadkin County children.
