Job Opening - Certified Finance Director

Town of Wilkesboro issued the following announcement on February 8.

THE TOWN OF WILKESBORO IS SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED AND ENGAGING PROFESSIONAL FOR THE ROLE OF FINANCE DIRECTOR.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE A BROAD RANGE OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN NORTH CAROLINA LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE WITH INTERPERSONAL SKILLS TO MATCH. THE FINANCE DIRECTOR REPORTS DIRECTLY TO THE TOWN MANAGER AND PROVIDES LEADERSHIP TO TOWN FINANCE AND IT STAFF TOTALING 4 INDIVIDUALS.  ADDITIONALLY, THIS POSITION PROVIDES FINANCIAL GUIDANCE TO THE TOWN’S ABC AND TDA BOARDS, RESPECTIVELY.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES AN INDIVIDUAL WITH EXCEPTIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF ACCOUNTING, AUDITING AND FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION.  A CANDIDATE THAT POSSESSES STRONG WRITTEN, VERBAL, AND PRESENTATION SKILLS ACROSS A MULTITUDE OF AUDIENCES IS STRONGLY DESIRED.

THE FINANCE DIRECTOR WILL ALSO BE DIRECTLY INVOLVED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOW ASPECTS OF THE TOWN:  CASH MANAGEMENT, PERIODIC AND ANNUAL REPORTING (FINANCIAL AND OTHER), ANNUAL BUDGETING, RISK MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RESOURCES, A/R, A/P, PAYROLL, IT, GRANT MANAGEMENT, CAPITAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT, CONTRACT MANAGEMENT, FINANCING, INVESTING, HEALTH BENEFITS, AND INTERNAL CONTROLS.  THIS POSITION IS ALSO ASKED TO PARTICIPATE AND PRESENT IN MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETINGS.

WILKESBORO IS A GREAT MIX OF COMMUNITY SIZE AND PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT.  BEING A TOWN OF ONLY 3,600 PEOPLE WHILE BOASTING A COMBINED GENERAL AND UTILITY BUDGET OF AROUND $15M WITH MULTIPLE PROJECTS BOTH IN PROGRESS AND ON THE HORIZON.  WILKESBORO ALSO MAINTAINS A HIGH LEVEL OF MANAGERIAL STABILITY WITH A TRACK RECORD OF LOW EMPLOYEE TURNOVER.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE A BACHELOR'S DEGREE FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH FIVE TO SEVEN OR MORE YEARS OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE, WITH A STRONG EMPHASIS ON NORTH CAROLINA EXPERIENCE. INDIVIDUALS HOLDING A CERTIFIED GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICER CERTIFICATION AND OTHERS WITH PRIVATE ACCOUNTING EXPERIENCE ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

SALARY REFLECTIVE OF QUALIFICATIONS.  INTERVIEWS TO BEGIN IMMEDIATELY AND POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
