Piedmont Triad Regional Council issued the following announcement on October 26.
Each year, the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services presents awards to recognize individuals, organizations, programs, and communities that have made significant contributions in support of the division’s efforts to enhance resources, services, and opportunities for our state’s older citizens.
Nancy Hall was awarded the Elizabeth Welch Award for 2020. This award recognizes an older adult who has effectively advocated for the needs of other older adults. Nancy, a retired social worker, has served in the Senior Tar Heel Legislature representing Forsyth County; has served on the Regional Advisory Council on Aging as well as the Forsyth County Aging Services Planning Committee for over 20 years.
Nancy is devoted to planning for the future and advocating at all levels for the needs of older adults. Nancy is the founder and director of Second Spring Arts Festival that showcases creative accomplishments of those 60 plus and promotes Winston-Salem as the City of Arts & Innovation.
Nancy is also the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina’s prestigious awards. She served on the board of directors of the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem from 2001 – 2006.
This award honors Dr. Elizabeth Welch, who served as chair of the psychology department at Salem College. She was often quoted to say we should not “retire” but “reinvest.” Dr. Welch was a founding director of the Shepherd’s Center in 1985.
