Piedmont Triad International Airport recently issued the following announcement.

This year’s Veteran’s Day will be commemorated in an extra special way thanks to the Triad Honor Flight, a member of the Honor Flight Network. For the first time in 10 years, Veteran’s from the Triad area will be traveling from the Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. The group will depart PTI early morning November 11th, and return in the evening after a day of touring in Washington, D.C. This year’s flight will include World War II (WWII), Korean, Cold War and Vietnam veterans.

The organization responsible for managing this year’s event, Triad Honor Flight, is a newly established non-profit organization governed by a board of directors, and adhering to the Honor Flight Network guidelines. Past Honor Flights from the Triad only included WWII veterans, but establishment of the new organization allows inclusion of all veterans 65 and older.

Triad Honor Flight organizer, Alison Huber says, “We are so very excited to have our Triad Honor Flight leaving PTI exactly 10 years to the date of the last Flight of Honor on Veteran’s Day, November 11th, 2021.  90 – 100 veterans will be honored and visit D.C. to visit their memorials.”

As a special initiative, HAECO Americas is sponsoring a veteran for the Triad honor flight. Additionally, HAECO’s employees and in-house Veteran Team will be writing letters to the veterans, and volunteering for sendoff / welcome home events on the day of the honor flight.

HAECO Americas VP of Human Resources, John Huff, commented, “We appreciate the service of all veterans, and we are especially grateful to show our appreciation for those who will be part of this year’s honor flight. Many of our employees gained their aviation experience while serving our country, and this flight is just one way we can show our thanks for this special group of people.”

PTI’s Executive Director Kevin Baker says, “We’re happy to see the honor flight return to PTI, and although it’s been 10 years since the last flight, this year’s flight promises to be special with involvement with so many from the community.”

PTI is thrilled to be a part of this special day honoring our veterans and invite you to take part in the festivities as well. To honor our veterans, the local Triad Honor Flight organizer is asking anyone who would like to write cards and letters thanking the veterans for their service.  The letters will be passed out on the flight home from Washington. You may drop off your letters to the vet at the Airport Authority office (located on the upper / departure level terminal building near entry door 4), or mail them to
