A high-ranking state senator said that Democrats are ignoring the public’s decision about requiring voters to show photographic identification when submitting their ballots.

“It’s discouraging at times to think that you, the voters, added a requirement for voter ID to your Constitution back in 2018 and because of Democratic Party obstructionism, the Constitution is being ignored,” Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) said in an Oct. 5 Facebook post.

Berger accused Gov. Roy Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein of refusing to enforce the 2018 voter identification constitutional requirement and using the legal system to obstruct the will of North Carolina voters.

The latest version of the voter identification law was struck down by U.S. District Court Judge Loretta Biggs, who cited the state’s history of voter suppression and racial discrimination as a factor in her decision, WXII 12 reported.

“I’ll keep fighting,” Berger wrote. “Voter ID is coming, no matter how hard Roy Cooper and Josh Stein try to kill it.”
