Surry County issued the following announcement on July 26.

Surry County Health and Nutrition Center is reporting the sixth and seventh COVID-19 associated deaths in Surry County.

The sixth individual died on July 23, 2020 from complications associated with COVID-19. The patient was in their eighties and had underlying medical conditions. The seventh individual died on July 25, 2020 and was in their sixties. To protect the families’ privacy, no further information will be released.

“I would like to extend my deep sympathies and condolences to the families. It goes without saying that this is a very difficult time for all who are affected,” stated Surry County Health Director, Samantha Ange. She continued, “We must all do our part to not only protect ourselves but to protect those who are more vulnerable to experiencing severe complications from COVID-19. I urge everyone to continue to abide by the recommendations set forth by the CDC, NC DHHS, and NC Governor Cooper to help ensure we do not reverse the impact we have made thus far with controlling the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.”

Surry County Health and Nutrition Center would like to once again reiterate the importance of taking the threat of COVID-19 seriously and remembering to protect yourselves and your loved ones by wearing a cloth face covering when in public, waiting at least 6 feet from others, avoiding crowded settings, and washing your hands frequently and thoroughly.

The COVID-19 outbreak has been accompanied by a flood of misinformation from unreliable sources.
