Northern Regional Hospital recently concluded its annual Camp Med program, aimed at introducing high school students to careers in healthcare. The week-long summer initiative offered 30 students from 11 local high schools the chance to engage in practical learning experiences, hospital tours, and mentorship sessions with the hospital’s clinical and administrative staff.
Participants had the opportunity to explore various medical skills and specialties such as intubation techniques, OB care, operating room procedures, and dissections of cow hearts and pig organs. Additionally, each student earned their Basic Life Support (BLS) certification during the program.
The hospital acknowledged several participants from different schools including Chloe Brantley from Calvary Christian School; Maddox Chamberlain, Lilliana Clodfelter, Ashlynn Comer, Addison Lawson, Itxel Leandro, Savanna Mathis, and Lauren McCreary from East Surry High School; Andrew Molesa from Elkin High School; Elizabeth Melton from Emmanuel Christian Academy; Cristian Angulo-Sanchez from Forbush High School; Ella Brintle, Kassady Dodson, Addison Hill, Kristen Jones, Madilyn Shough, and Jayden Wall from Mount Airy High School; Sofia Mendez, Olivia Montgomery, Emma Norman, Guadalupe Salmeron Crisastomo, and Maggie Tate from North Surry High School; Monserrat Ortiz-Garcia from Starmount High School; Sierra Carpenter and Kaitlynn Kreger from Surry Central High School; Eva Brown, Acacia Phillips, and Autumn Simmons from Surry Early College High School; Andrew Evans and David Ritchey from Woodland Baptist Christian Academy.
