The City of Mount Airy announced on Mar. 28 that it is accepting sealed bids for the construction of the Franklin Street Streetscape Phase II – Willow to South project. Bids will be received at the Mount Airy City Engineers office in the Public Works Building, with a deadline set for 2:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The project involves furnishing and installing granite curbs, sidewalks, brick pavers, asphalt, conduit and other materials required to improve the streetscape along Franklin Street in downtown Mount Airy. The city specifies that all work must comply with state licensing laws and safety requirements detailed in the contract documents.
An optional pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the office of Mount Airy Public Works. The meeting will address questions about the project as well as bidding procedures and forms.
Bidders are required to submit documentation demonstrating an adequate safety program or risk having their bid rejected. A five percent bid deposit is also mandatory and must be submitted in a separate envelope attached to the proposal.
Contract documents can be examined at the Public Works Department or accessed online through subscription services such as Dodge Construction Network and HCAC/Carolinas AGC via iSqFt. Copies are available from the City Engineers office upon payment of a non-refundable fee.
“Female and minority-owned businesses are encouraged to submit bids,” said Melissa Brame, City Clerk.
The city maintains an email list for those wishing to receive notifications about future construction contracts but does not notify potential bidders by telephone.
